Scattery Island will be the destination for an Old Kilfarboy Society outing on Sunday, 26 July. As well as a tour of the monastic sites, participants will get a guided tour of the battery and a walk around the island coastline. The Scattery battery is in an excellent state of preservation and is one of seven fortifications built on the Shannon Estuary between 1793 and 1815 because of the fear of a French invasion. Meet at Kilrush Creek Marina at 9.30 am for a 10.00 crossing (weather dependent). We will be on the island for about three hours, so suitable clothing and footwear is recommended as well as lunch/snack food. Price: €12 for boat (children €7) + €5 insurance. Contact Maura at 187-1264527.
